Research and Development

This section covers The Art Ministry’s explorations in art and design, and reports on our activity and projects at various stages.

Future by Design

The Art Ministry is one of a new breed of companies which has recognised and is responding to the mergence of the two separate industries that are Art & Design. The Art Ministry is unique as it’s the first trade supplier to provide both Art & Design products and services.

In the near future our collections are expanding to include more art styles and design-led products. Part of our plan is to collaborate with accomplished designers to launch The Art Ministry label, adding home furnishings and accessories to our collections; from fabrics to wallpaper, dinnerware to silverware.

Currently we are developing a collection called the Wilderness Collection together with textile designer, Laura Spencer. Laura’s talent is in high demand, working with designers and fashion houses such as Zandra Rhodes, Celia Birtwell, Beaumont and Fletcher, Bennison Fabrics, Caroline Quartermaine, and Vanessa Arbuthnott, to name a few. The Wilderness Collection will make its TV debut soon in the next series of Castaway. We’ll keep you updated.

Facilitating the Art

The Art Ministry acts as a facilitator between artists & designers and outside bodies. Assisting in the commissioning of a piece of public art, helping schools and groups to organise art workshops, and to provide authors and publishers with information and access to artists, are just some of things we are asked to do.

In the last few months alone:

  • Electric Sky Productions, which are making a programme "Make Me Brilliant" for Channel 5, asked us to find a painter to tutor one of the participants and organise studio space. Yousif Naser will be featuring on the show due to air early next year.

  • Florence Biennale contacted us to organise the showing of painter Houria Niati’s work at their prestigious exhibition in December this year.

  • KPFK, a renowned feminist radio program in Los Angeles, have asked us to arrange for Houria to speak on their show.

  • The University of Illinois History Department requested images of Houria’s work to publish in a new book.

  • London Transport Museum contacted us regarding textile artist Amarjeet Kaur Nandhra, for a private commission to be shown at the museum through August and September. The exhibition is titled “Travels by Textiles.”
  • Through our promotion and support of artists we are opening up new opportunities and possibilities for collaboration consistently. On a more roots level, we assist artists with finding funding, by providing production facilities, and developing ideas. We act as a sounding board and advise on creative direction.
